The US food and drug board are now investigating whether “Alli” (Orlistat) could be linked to serious liver damage. It has received more than 30 reports linking the drug to possible health problem, and in six cases reported that the patients went on to develop organ failure.
The “Alli” weight loss pill works by blocking the absorption of fat from meals in the digestive system, and claims that it can help dieters to lose 50% more weight than just dieting alone.
Because of these claims, sales in UK pharmacies are reported to be around 200,000 people using the drug to lose weight.
Although there are possible side effects of Alli, for example abdominal pain, gas, light-colored stools and possible diarrhea. These finding are a new worry to those people who are using the pill.
Although, the manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline said there was no evidence the drug caused liver damage when it tested on 30,000 patients. It may be that the people who suffered from liver problems already had an already underlying health that was going to come out eventually.
But if you are on Alli and worried about any possible problems it’s recommended that you probably should stop using the pill straight away and speak to your doctor of health practioner for advice.
