What is Heartburn? Heartburn is a condition that most people experience after eating. It is typified by a burning sensation in the chest that can sometimes spread to the neck and throat. Often people who suffer from heartburn notice that the condition is made worse by lying down or bending over. In severe cases people can confuse their heartburn with a heart attack as the pain is extremely bad. Alternative therapies for Heartburn There are a number of ways in which you can treat heartburn without medication and we are going to consider a few. The first thing you may want to do is look at your diet. It is widely accepted that heartburn can be caused or made worse by eating certain types of food. Some of the foods that are thought to trigger heartburn include greasy food, orange juice, chocolate, coffee, wine and tomato-based sauces. If you are suffering from heartburn on a regular basis you may want to do a full dietary analysis in order to determine which food you are eating are contributing to your heartburn. Some people could find that just by eliminating certain foods their problem clears up. In terms of your diet you may find it beneficial to eat raw organic foods which can be easier on the stomach. You may also find it beneficial to introduce enzymes into your diet to help with the condition. Other advice that you could find useful to help with your heartburn include eating more slowly and properly chewing your food. You should also try to avoid lying down for about two or three hours after you eat. This will allow adequate time for the food to be digests and some of the acid in the stomach to be reduced before you lie down. In addition some people may find that taking probiotics on a regular basis can help to sooth the acid production in your stomach and so reduce the occurrence and intensity of heartburn. In addition a recent study has shown that beetroot extract could be very useful in relieving the symptoms of heartburn. Many practitioners may also recommend acupuncture as a treatment for heartburn. The principle believes that all conditions including heartburn are caused by an imbalance in the energy flowing around the body. Acupuncture can help to balance out this energy and so reduce the symptoms of the conditions. It is a safe and non-invasive treatment with very few if any side effects and so could be worth a try for many people. Finally, many people associate heartburn with stress and so you may want to consider treating the stress you are experiencing to reduce the condition. Some of the treatments that could be particularly beneficial for this include practising yoga on a regular basis. The above are only some suggestions of what you can do and it is best to find a treatment that works best for you. However if you do not want to take medication then you can see there are a number of options for you to treat your heartburn that will have less side effects.
