Many predicted when Ebay implemented a change in their fee structure that it wouldn't be long before sellers started looking for alternatives to Ebay. In short that is what has happened. Now, don't get me wrong, it is still possible to make a lot of money with Ebay auctions. However for some things, like testing out a new market, Ebay has priced a lot of its sellers out of the ball game.
It remains to be seen how the mass migration of sellers away from Ebay will affect the auction giant. However, it is clear that the easy days of banking easy cash from Ebay as a seller are mostly over. Even Ebay itself has seen a decrease in its monthly page views.
Regardless of Ebay's policies, the good news is that there are a lot of alternatives to Ebay to choose from. Let's look at a couple of them.
At amazon.com one can create a listing without paying a listing fee. Amazon is one of the most trafficked websites in the world and is the largest internet retailer. You can harness the site's power by listing your products on their marketplace. The other piece of good news is that their listings stay online for 60 days as opposed to Ebay's 10.
Another alternative e-commerce site is Ebid.com. Ebid is a growing marketplace that offers more favorable terms to sellers. Currently, there are no fees to list an item on Ebid. At the close of a sale you will have the option of paying the site 3% or you can become a premium member and simply pay a flat fee for complete access over a period of time, such as a week or month. Ebid has also launched an aggressive campaign to win over former Ebayers and so far their results have been impressive.
A final option is NetSpray.com which has some nifty features that enable you to export your auctions to social sites such as Facebook. NetSpray is a small but growing player that is very seller-friendly.
As you can see there are a number of alternatives of Ebay that you can choose from if you are looking to make money with e-commerce.
