Alternatives To Traditional A Levels

Not everyone wants to put hours and hours in slaving over books. It suits some people very well, especially people who are academically minded and love to research and find things out.

However if it doesn’t appeal to you, it’s not the end of the road. Everyone has a unique skillset and there is huge variety in the kind of course you can do to optimise your blend of skills and your personality.

This article will discuss the benefits of choosing to do qualifications other than A Levels and how these courses can really help your future career and education prospects. Apprenticeships are an equal alternative to A Levels, don’t think you’ll be able to chuck out the books completely, you’ll still have to study and even write the odd essay, and it’ll be really hard work, but you’ll get a large dose of real world experience to go along with it.

Here are the other options you could choose:

• Vocational Training Courses: what better to prepare you for the world of work than a course that will teach you to do your chosen job and also put you to work in that field as well? If your dream is to build houses, then a Construction NVQ would really benefit you. The same goes if you would like to learn all about renewal energy. There’s an NVQ for everyone. NVQ’s are much respected and would show employers that you are up to the job and have real world experience.

• Staff Training: Already at work? Some colleges offer bespoke staff training packages and provide industry recognised qualifications. If you work in the construction industry in particular, there are lots of courses you could go on.

• Diplomas: The 14-19 Diploma is being heralded as the biggest thing in education since the introduction of the GCSE. Diplomas take both a vocational and academic approach to learning. Employers are extremely happy with their creation as no one will pass a Diploma without reaching very high standards in the Three R’s.

So have no fear, if A Levels aren’t your thing, there are lots of other options you can explore. There’s a talented person inside all of us and it only needs the right environment in which to flourish and take shape.

To find out more about vocational training courses, search for “vocational training”. It could be the best decision you ever make!
