An Easy Way To Reduce Anxiety
If you're struggling with feelings of anxiety, fear, or panic, it might seem like the best thing you can do is be vigilant in researching all potential danger. Unfortunately, this ignores all of your past experiences, which have proven that you are more than capable of existing and, even flourishing, against unknown barriers. Spending all of your time and energy feeling anxious and worried can quickly lead to feeling hopeless. It’s not possible to be aware of or prepare for all possible threats. Sometimes things happen that are completely unexpected. If we shift our awareness to our strengths and resources instead of possible worries, we begin to realize that if (IF not WHEN) we encounter danger, we’ll be prepared. We begin to feel less anxious and panic and more confident. So how do you shift your focus from one of anxiety and fear to a more balanced perspective? Here’s one simple tip. Just turn off the TV news. TV news programs need to create ratings so they play off our fears. Think about it. How many people would tune in night after night if the TV news reported on all of the good things happening in the world? “Tune in tonight to hear how another person volunteered to collect food for the hungry.” Really? News shows want you to tune in so they try to give you a reason. By watching the news every day you’re immersing yourself in danger. Especially, if you watch the news right before bed… Now I’m not suggesting you drop all awareness of the world around you. There’re still plenty of ways to keep in touch with important events without all of the hype. You can read the headlines from a number of online sources. If it’s something you find interesting or that’s relevant to you, you can have immediate access to it online. So see what happens if you stop watching TV news for a week.
