An Introduction To Ip Pbx
Introduction: With the advancement of technology the old PBX systems have been replaced by the new more efficient private branch exchanges known as IP PBX. As the name predicts the IP PBX works on the principle of VoIP and PBX both. This system switches calls over to the local lines from internet. The sharing of external phone lines helps to accommodate more users in a faster and efficient way. The IP PBX serves between the VoIP user and the traditional user or in some cases between 2 local users similarly like a normal PBX works. The IP PBX works with the voice signals over the IP, adding more advantages of the IP telephony to this system. The IP PBX can work as a physical system or as a virtual system. The physical system involves cards with FXO/FXS ports to work where as the virtual system is known as a software solution and it works with soft phones and VoIP gateways, thus lowering the overall system cost but not compromising over the call quality. All the functions of a traditional PBX are performed by the IP PBX with some special and advance functions that are only possible through the IP system. The proxy and the IP PBX servers are similar in one way or the other. Whenever the SIP user desires to make a call it has to get itself registered with the IP PBX server. And then the call routing is performed to get the user to the desired destination after getting the permission from the IP PBX. The SIP clients can either be a IP Phone hardware or the software based soft phone. The best advantage of the IP PBX is its flexibility and compatibility. The system is redundant; this means it has a backward compatibility. The latest systems use the same old TDM technology with the advanced messaging platform. This helps the system to have more advance functions like voicemail, call forwarding, conferencing and etc. The system is very flexible as moving of the system or adding up of new users can be performed very easily. Working Of The IP-PBX System: The conversion of the circuit switched calls to the form of voice and data, to be able to transfer it on one line is how the IP PBX works. All the incoming calls whether from a circuit switched network or even from the packet switched network can be dealt effectively with the IP PBX. Types Of IP PBX: There are two main types of the IP PBX; the hosted and the non hosted IP PBX. The hosted IP PBX means that only simple VoIP accessories are required by the company and the main equipment is hosted by another company. The hosted system means we just install the software provided by the company hosting our PBX. This reduces the overall equipment and maintenance cost. The non-hosted PBX system means buying of all the required equipments like the PBX device for signal conversion and then the gateways and software to handle calls effectively.
