A proxy server optionally removes cookies and page titles, scripts, ads, referrer information and hides your browser and operating system information. Some commercial surfing facilities may provide other benefits such as encrypting your email, internet messaging, chats, etc. But then these facilities also tend to slow down your browsing a bit.
