Well this is exactly the position you DON'T find yourself in when buying on ebay. On ebay you are welcome to check the previous transactions a seller has made through their feedback, this not only ensures you that they are in fact legit but can tell you how fast or effectively they can ship a product and whether they have done it well over the time they have been selling.
It is this free-to-view feedback system that sets eBay apart from all online stores and high-street retails shops.
With the information you can gather from a sellers feedback you will be able to make an informed decision on that item you would like to buy, whether it be the quality of the product or the accuracy of the listing. Also, the feedback system on ebay works very well because it allows the buyer and the seller to make a comment on the transaction, therefore you wont just get a number rating the seller or the buyer - but instead you get to here their story.

Well I can honestly say that I have not stepped a foot wrong on ebay as regards to buying.
Lastly it is worth mentioning that even though feedback system is most useful to the buyer it is somewhat useful to the seller as well, for example: lets say you have put up a auction for an item you are selling, but the winning bidder has a '0' feedback score (the number of feedback ratings the user has received) as of the time he bids, knowing the item is very valuable and is getting multiple bids, you may want to remove the bidder who has the '0' feedback rating from the auction, why? to avoid a situation where-by the winning bidder is unable to pay for the item listed and has therefore wasted your time and could possibly waste your money. Although very few cases of this, it does happen.
