Antique Aircraft-where To Find Them

There are plenty of airplane associations around and amongst that; the Antique Airplane Association, Inc. (AAA) is the oldest and most famous. It was formed by Robert L. Taylor in August 1953 and the process of preserving antique airplanes started from then. The association was formed by Taylor through a classified advertisement in Flying magazine. It was made for people who were interested in such old planes.

The AAA is based in Antique Airfield in Blakesburg, Iowa and it the headquarters of this organization. This body boasts 7000 members both in the US and 20 foreign countries. They don’t have many airplanes for sale but the organization is made just people who are interested in old aero planes. Robert L. Taylor the founding president of his body says that when he started the AAA, there was no other association with interest in such antique and experimental aircraft or any other jet planes. The primary objective of forming this organization was to “keep the antiques flying”. Taylor had a great interest in war planes and he wanted to spread it in the society. He provides membership to people who have a good history in aviation.

In the late 50s, the AAA was incorporated by Ken Cook who was serving as the vice president of the association. Cook then published periodical called AAA news and later renamed it to American Airman Magazine. Cook left the association in 1961. The association is not that big now, the interest of the people has dwindled. In the 60s, LeBlond aircraft engines remaining parts stock was sold to AAA. There are a very few parts left now and most of them are engine drawings. The Board of Directors of this organization made some changes in 1970 and this association was reduced to a non profit corporation in Iowa. Since then, it has been operated as a non-profit body. The association doesn’t have any used helicopters for sale or aircrafts for sale; they don’t have any Cessna airplanes, piper aircraft or any single engine prop in their collection. The body was formed just to bring people of similar interests together.

Antique aircrafts are often collected by people who love having old items as a hobby. It is a very costly hobby because these aircrafts are quite rare and even if you find any good ones, you will have to spend a lot of money. The party on the other side might be reluctant to sell the product.
