Are Calvin Klein Ads Too Sexy?

How sexy is too sexy? Calvin Klein has released a new series of underwear advertisements earlier in the month that has raised some eyebrows. In racy attempts to sell underwear, massive billboards have the city divided on the issue. Right in the heart of SoHo, on Houston and Lafayette, stands one of these sexy ads. It features a sweaty and glistening Eva Mendes in sheer lingerie, tugging at the skivvies on a hot male model. Some people have taken offense to the ads, claiming they don’t want their children to be exposed to it on a daily basis. While others don’t mind looking at the sexy ad, saying it does the job of selling underwear.

No matter how you feel about them, you have to admit, the billboards command your attention. Calvin Klein already pulled one ad in June after hearing an earful from neighbors and a Christian advocacy group. The billboard featured a teenaged girl, practically in a threesome with two young guys. During a time in which media and VH1 shows desensitizes people to sexuality, it’s interesting to see what causes an uproar in the community.

Another fun fact: there was a television ad featuring Mendes and it was banned from American airwaves last year as well. It’s true; European TV ads do push the naughty envelope more. How do you feel about it? What photography is sexy and what crosses the line?
