Are You A Marketing Slacker?

What is a “slacker”? According to Wikipedia, a slacker is a term referred to a person who avoids work or who shirks obligation one has. It may be because that person is apathetic or lacking ambition, or is simply cynical about his work. It also refers to a person who tries to escape military service during wartime.

In short, a slacker is someone who avoids doing what he is supposed to do. The next question now is whether you are a slacker or slacking when it comes to marketing your business? Are you a slacker in promoting your business to your target clients?

Admit it or not, most business owners have slacked one time or another in getting clients and prospects become involved in their business. One reason is that with the recent economic downturn, most owners would rather save their money on other operating activities to run the business rather than lose their cash on marketing efforts that have a lot to be desired when it comes to generating leads. While others feel that they have a great product, and that alone will be able to get people interested and make a sale.

You are definitely shirking your marketing responsibilities whether you are conscious about it or not. When you stop marketing just because you are not getting the results you wanted from your efforts, it is a sure indication that you are slacking in getting the opportunity to be successful in your business.

And you are definitely slacking if you just expect people to come and buy your products and services without any marketing involved. Whether its color poster printing, print posters or even table tents, you need to promote in order for you to grow your business.

So how do you know you are a marketing slacker?

When it was a year ago that you have updated your marketing campaign. Whether it is your website or your poster printing design, you are definitely a slacker if the last time you were able to re-design your marketing campaign was a year or even six months ago. When was the last time you restructured your marketing collaterals? When was the last time you were able to upload new content to your website?

When you have not written new content to your website or even to your print collaterals. People nowadays are looking for fresh and new stuff every day. If you do not have up-to-date and new information to share in your website or your print posters for example, you have no chance of getting them to stay and read more of your stuff.

When you have not tried the current popular tools in advertising… such as using the online networking sites. Facebook and Twitter are just two of the most popular networking sites that people are crazy with nowadays. If you have not at least considered doing your advertising in these sites then you are definitely slacking in your marketing efforts.

Keeping up with the times is one way of seeing whether you are a slacker or not in promoting your business. But take heart. It is not too late for you to do something about it. You can choose one activity and put it in place. You might not get the results right away, but the effort of starting one activity to market your business is better than doing nothing at all to increase your leads.
