Are You Choosing The Suitable Choice?
I was recently standing in a exceptionally long, slow moving security line at an airport. One would believe I would be so numb towards the procedure that the “long and slow moving” part wouldn't be an subject any longer. Certain days it isn’t, but this day, practically everything regarding the “long and slow moving” part was an subject with me. As I was seemingly inching my way along, I happened to look behind me for what had to be a small fraction of a second. It took one or two moments to register, but my brain was telling me that something just wasn’t quite “normal” concerning what I saw. Now, we have all been in this setting. You would like to stare over at whatever caught your eye - but you don’t want to be too conspicuous, right? You don’t want to get caught viewing something - or worse, someone. Thus I did my absolute best non-obvious casual turn of my head behind me and it became pretty clear why I wanted to look again. Standing there was a childish child approximately the age of ten or so. To look at his appearance, you would believe he was a commercial child for a Norman Rockwell painting - red curly hair, freckles and all. He looked up at me with his instantly contagious grin, and when our eyes met I merely said, “Howdy, pardner!” He quite diffidently acknowledged my welcoming, and that is when I acknowledged that this was not just a few usual kid. Much to my astonishment, protruding from the tops of BOTH of his Nike running sneakers were 2 titanium legs. As if that weren’t sufficient to get my notice, there was not anything below his left elbow where his arm was “supposed” to be. Well, we ambled along for quite awhile in that line before I could gather up the courage to inquire him where he was headed. He shared with me he was travelling to go see his grandma in Missoula, Montana, for a week. I asked him what he was planning to do up there, and he said he hoped to do some fly fishing and ATV riding with his grandpa. Unexpectedly, the security line didn’t seem so long. Before he went his route and I went mine, I finally asked him if he had any thought how many individuals he stimulated on a daily basis. I could tell from his response he was far too humble and innocent to recognize what I was asking. Consequently I only said, “Well, you surely empowered one today. Have a fantastic journey, and catch some lunkers.” You see, it dawned on me that this young MAN has more issues to deal with before he gets out of bed each day than I have had in my whole 56 years on this world. What was so evident was that he wasn’t about to tolerate his situation as they existed. It was very apparent he had previously accepted the duty for taking his conditions and state and DETERMINING WHAT HIS REALITY WAS GOING TO BE. What a vast lesson! The lessons are all around us each and everyday if we're open to seeing them. And what about us? What decisions will we make in our careers? It’s funny when you think about the truth that the only selection we don’t have is to not make choices. Let’s choose wisely.
