The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the body which runs from the lower half of the spine to the ankles. Due to the problems in the vertebra, the sciatic nerve gets compressed which results in pain. In many case it never does, and most likely, there would be an increase in the flare ups of the pain to such an extent that walking, standing and even sleeping would become difficult. Let’s have a look at the different kinds of exercises/workouts through which you can cure your sciatica pain considerably. (The best thing about these exercises is that you don’t need to but any equipments or anything. You can practice them on a regular basis at your home especially during the early morning). Exercises such as the Pawanmuktasana Series (Part 1), Bhujangasana, Chakrasana and Surya Namaskara play a significant role in reducing the weight on the spine and making it more supple and flexible. The above mentioned exercises are a part of a workout system call ‘Yoga’ which has its origins in ancient India. In order to know as to how to perform these exercises in a proper way so as to extract maximum benefit, do a Google search and checkout a few videos of the same in You Tube. Apart from regular workout, you also need to pay attention on the kind of your food intake. Your diet should contain food which includes spinach, berries, celery and dark green leafy vegetables. You should also pay attention to your body postures i.e. the way stand or sit to improve the strength of your back muscles. Place your back against the wall in a straight position with the back of your head touching the wall. Maintain this position for 5-10 minutes. Doing this on a daily basis would improve your body posture and help to cure sciatica. In case the sciatica problem has evolved into an advanced stage where basic body movements are causing pain, surgery might be a viable option. However, you should always consult your doctor/certified fitness professional so as to have a clear idea as to how to proceed for such kind of measures.
