Are You Living The Life You Want?

Many people say they are eager to change their lives for the better. However, true change takes much more than just desire or recognition that change is needed. For this reason, thousands of people fail to achieve the change they so badly want. How can we achieve lasting positive changes that will have an uplifting impact on our lives for decades to come?

The Past and Present

Many people either feel that their past determines their future or that their past is something to forget about because it cannot be changed. While it's true that the past cannot be changed, our experiences hold the power to mold and shape our futures. Whether these past experiences are primarily good or bad is not as important as what a person does with them. We must learn to view the past as fuel for the future without actually taking our eyes off the goals we hold in front of us.

The Role of Blame

we cannot change anything about our lives without first taking full responsibility for all past and present choices and mistakes. Only by accepting full responsibility for every event in our lives will we allow ourselves to own the power to change things for the better. Accepting full responsibility for all things past and present means that we acknowledge and accept those events as a part of our lives. We do not engage in useless "wishful thinking", imagining what our lives would be like if we had taken a different course. Rather, we channel that energy into enforcing change for the future.

Living by Design, Not Default

living by default means that we simply coast through life without having any solid plans or goals in place. This can be compared to getting in a car, turning on the cruise control and just driving around without knowing where we are going or when we want to arrive at our destination. People who live their lives this way often wonder why they never seem to achieve the things they want. We ultimately must decide what we want out of life and then create a plan of action to achieve those goals.
