Are You Observing National Self-indulgence Week Everyday?

The other day I heard that it was “National Self-Indulgence Week” for some of us that’s every day. Whether there’s such a thing or not, what thoughts come to mind when you think of indulging yourself? Do you think of abundance, a reward or something devilish? According to Dictionary.com the definition of Self-Indulgence is (n).Gratification of one’s owns appetite, desires and passion, etc. So, what would you indulge in, pizza, chocolate, chips, cookies, ice cream, cake, pasta, or pie to be in observance?

Indulging every so often is important part of a balanced weight management plan. Indulging in your favorite foods can keep you satisfied and on track. But, do you ever deprive yourself of a certain food or feel deprived when dinning out by watching “Stick Man” pig out? I was like that when I was losing my sixty pounds. How come they can eat like that and I can’t I’d say. Well, when I realize that I’m not like everyone else and accepted it I’m now happy with whom I am. You may also have a trigger food that you’ve been avoiding because you can’t control and feel deprived. This too I had to come to terms with. Peanuts are my trigger food and once I get my hands on them I DON’T stop until they’re gone but, I don’t feel deprived because it’s my own fault that I can’t control myself.

However, by depriving yourself from something you enjoy you may start to resent your efforts and over indulged in what you’ve deprived yourself of. See, everything has an equal and opposite reaction. So, if you deprive yourself from your favorite foods long enough, you’ll likely end up over indulging. Start to think how you can indulge and still eat healthy without the guilt. Pizza can be made at home with finer ingredients and on Changingourweighs.com there’s a delicious “Guiltless Cake” recipe. Hundred calorie snack packs are an excellent way to enjoy your favorite cookies and a hot fudge sundae made with light ice cream and syrup can be a taste of heaven without the inconvenience of dying.

In my article titled “Do You Need Some Motivation” I mentioned that the only two things that motivate you are pain and pleasure, the constant avoidance of pain and seeking pleasure principle. Now, another reason you may not be achieving your goal is that you’re not be in harmony with it. See gratitude is an attitude that puts you in harmony with your source of supply of desires, passions and your appetite to achieve your goals. And an attitude is thought, feeling and action. Think of it this way, have you ever been driving down the road and a song comes over the radio that irritates the “beegeebers” out of you and immediately change the station because it wasn’t in harmony with your attitude. Just as deprivation is the opposite of indulging the same is true with being in harmony and being at odds. When you’re not on the same wave length, frequency or at odds with your goal your mind will change the station to the thoughts you are tune into.

There are two types of gratitude, the kind you feel when you receive and the kind you feel when you give. Give permission to self-indulge and receive the gratification of being in harmony of your desire, passion and appetite to achieve your goal.

Have a Great and Successful Week,
-Steve
