Customer service, every day it seems that there is less and less of it in the world. But why? One must wonder why it is that individuals and companies don't need or care about your business anymore. Is this just a sign of the times or is it somewhere lost the ability for compassion, for showing respect for others?

A number of customers think that it may have to do with the proliferation of computers, reducing the amount of hands on customer service that was available previously. The long time on hold and the computer driven answering services is what they think is a contributer to this issue, but this may not be the reality. Even though it does make most people crazy when you have to push a lot of numbers to get to the right place or to a real person, that still may not make the customer service decline.

To make this point look at the commercial flight services. There was one of the airlines that used to have a motto of flying the friendly skies, but that is in decline, in reality it is gone for good. If this service industry was very customer service friendly in the past why is it they can't still do it that way now? It may be because most of the people in the public are becoming very complacent, they are used to being pushed about here and there, treated like a number only.

If you make a comparison between the commercial airline industry to the private jet services you will see the contrast in the customer service departments. There is a significant difference in this area, and it is what is propelling the private charter industry to more success because they take their customer needs seriously, they actually care about them.

Of course it is not just the airlines that are lacking in customer service as you have probably already noticed, every company is lacking in this primary area. And if the public continues to put up with rude customer service agents and a lack of caring about their needs then nothing will change. There is nothing wrong with saving some money but when it is at the expense of being treated like a person, people should reconsider their choices of service providers.
