Are You Truly Playing To Win?

Imagine that you’re back in 11th grade. You’ve achieved brilliant grades in all of your courses, and you’re absolutely certain you’ll pass your year-end exams. Why? Because this is your forth year in 11th grade! You know the material. You know the answers to the exam questions. You know that you’ll pass with flying colors. So you just keep repeating the same material, over and over. That way you’re not losing, you’re always winning. Right?

Of course not! Sure, you’re not losing, buy you’re certainly not winning either. What have you learnt? There’s been no forward progress.

Your business can be viewed in this sense, also. On the surface, it may seem that you’re quite successful. Maybe you’ve got your website up, you’ve got recurring income, and your marketing efforts are paying for themselves, two-fold. You could do more, but you’re comfortable where you’re at. Each day is predictable. It’s small enough that you can manage all of the details on your own. There’s no need for any risk or growth…or is there?

In order to play to WIN, you’ve got to think bigger than just keeping up. Bigger means taking bigger risks – stretching further. It means thinking about, and implementing, the next, bigger project. It means taking your endeavors to a bigger public, so that you’ll make yourself accountable to a larger audience.

Often, we don’t want to brag. We don’t want to talk about our businesses to those who we deem as uninterested or skeptical. So, we stay quiet, and simply endeavor not to fail. This equates to stagnancy.

If you want more, if you want to play to WIN, you need to ask yourself some questions, and answer them honestly:

* What things would I attempt to do if I knew I couldn’t fail?
* If my mindset could catapult me into that fail-proof state of mind, would I give an hour a day working on my mindset?
* Can I visualize myself in the midst of my ultimate success?
* Can I see the goals that will lead me to that success?

One key component of playing to win is DESIRE. No team ever won the World Series or the Super Bowl that didn’t want it badly. If you have the desire for, let’s say, $1,000,000, then you have the ability to find a way to get to it.

Even if your current circumstance doesn’t seem to be the type of environment that would promote the earning of $1,000,000, you still have the ability to adopt a millionaire mindset and to move in the direction of your goal. If you hold a desire to have something, and you reflect on the resources that you have before you, you will realize that you have everything right there, in front of you, that you need to achieve your goal.

No desire exists without a way to realize it; one cannot exist without the other. Your job is to find the route; map the course; find the path.

If you’ve been pursuing a particular goal, and have not been successful, it can be helpful to open your mind to new opportunities. With the adoption of a mindset where you can envision the realization of your goals, the path will open to you.

Take quiet time to envision the realization of your goal. Allow previously hidden routes to open up and invite you to follow them. Don’t worry about how; simply keep your eye on the biggest picture and the “how” will come. Know that your goal will be yours, and you’ll soon feel it within your grasp.

It’s time to ditch 11th grade. The lessons you have learned there are valuable, but it’s time to break out of that comfort zone, announce to the world that you’re not only moving onto 12th grade, but you’re vying for your spot at the top of the class.

Remember, it’s easy to stay out of the loser’s bracket, but it will never compare to the feeling of being a bona fide, first place winner.
