Are Folding Camping Toilets The Future?

Do you like the thought of camping trips but find that the reality is sometimes not as good as you might have expected? Many people enjoy getting back to basics but toilet facilities at campsites throughout the world are a cause for complaint.

It's annoying enough when you find that you can't have a hot shower but some would say that it rather goes with the territory. After all, you've not booked into an international quality hotel, so why would you expect the creature comforts.

Unfortunately it's not just hot showers that are lacking at some sites. Let's be honest here - the bathroom facilities at some sites are filthy.

We're not just talking about toilets that may look as though they could do with a little clean. We're talking about toilet blocks that are completely unhygienic. It's enough to put many people off of taking a camping trip.

So why are facilities often in such a state? There's no doubt that many campsite owners see themselves as doing you a favour by allowing you to stay at their site. They might feel that they've provided you with a plot of land on which to pitch your tent and that anything else is a bonus.

When it comes to cleanliness, hygiene and safety such an attitude is clearly not as it should be. If you go to a campsite and find poor conditions then it's important that you make your feelings known by complaining.

A willingness to complain can lead to improvements and undoubtedly has done at many sites in this country and elsewhere in Europe.

What about if you're planning a trip and you're not sure what standard of toilet facilities to expect? One approach that many people adopt is to take their own toilet facilities along with them. This can work well, although it must be said that many camping toilets have not been as compact as might be expected.

If you're struggling for space when trying to load everything into the boot of your car then the last thing that you probably need is another large item to pack. A better alternative might be to seek out one of the newer models of camping toilet.

These often have a folding element, ensuring that they take up a lot less space. These are surely the way forward for many of us. No more unclean, unhygienic toilets.
