Are We Really Affected By The Lunar Cycle?

This is a question which may conjure up thoughts of New Age hippie nonsense for many. It is also a subject often associated with such things as horoscopes for which there appears to be little proof. Consequently it is usually dismissed. But can a new piece of information about the properties of water in relation to the moon, convince people otherwise?

A group of people that would not be so easy to convince would be scientists. They say that due to there being no biochemical association to translate gravitational forces of the moon to biochemical effect, that this simply cannot be true. There are plenty of anti-moon studies out there writing the whole idea off, yet the ones that can prove something are actually hidden. Could this be for financial and political reasons? This could well be the case as it is highly unlikely that a study trying to prove that heart attacks are related to the cycle of the planets would get a lot of funding. However, if we looked at the properties of water could we find the answer?

Since we are made up of 70% water it would seem that it may be an important factor in the understanding of our bodies, which has been ignored. If we consider that water has vibrational properties, which I believe it does, then could water allow our body to transfer vibrational waves emitted by the moon into chemical reactions? I think it is a definite possibility that cannot be overlooked.

This may certainly explain why it has so often been said that so many ailments are supposedly affected by the moon and the lunar cycle. Research has shown that the thyroid gland has a cycle of peaks and troughs in all vertebrates peaking in March, July and November, and falling in April, June and September. The researchers showed that this correlated only with the cycle of the planet Mercury. Other conditions which have shown a relationship with the moon in research studies are urological emergencies, strokes symptoms, epilepsy, heart attacks, gout, mortality rates, stress levels and urine retention. This is not to mention things such as traffic accidents.

It may shock you, but as long ago as 1955 a German researcher reported that traffic accidents were more frequent when there are changes in the geomagnetic field. He went on to analyse why this might be the case and found that human reaction times were much slower during periods of disturbed geomagnetic activity. This was also confirmed by researchers two years later. Also other large studies have looked at the effects of geomagnetic storms on human biological systems and have come up with similar results.

It is by no means being implied that the moon is definitely responsible for every ache and pain and problem we have in our lives, but there does need to be more significant research in the area. It is sad that the moon affect, something believed in by the Ancient Greeks, Roman and Egyptians, can be dismissed as inferior despite the fact that it is 5,000 years of observation. After all, even something as basic as the seasons are caused by the cycle of the moon. But if we perhaps took into consideration the new information about the properties of water and its vibrations, then we could finally be getting somewhere.
