Are You Living Life Through Preview Mode?

I was at the movies this week, watching a preview for an upcoming film. You know when sometimes they seem to show so many "good bits" you feel as if you have seen most of the movie already? My sister made the comment - "We may as well not go and see that one - we've pretty much seen it all already!". I replied "Yes, but we haven't felt it".

These days (I sound old don't I!) there is so much information out there, so many choices to make, that we are bombarded with glimpses, samples and snippets of just about everything. From ads previewing tv shows, to leaflets in our letterbox, news headlines at our corner store to banner ads on the internet and we get so many emails we even check those in preview mode. Everything seems to be leading us somewhere to something... but do we ever get there and get to stop and actually feel the feeling of "being there" or are we simply bouncing around from one lead to the next...

Can seeing a preview or getting just a glimpse really replace the experience of living something to the full?

Sure from the movie preview (and it was a chick flick by the way!) we may be able to guess that boy will meet girl, they will fall in love, all will go well for a few minutes until there will of course be some kind of drama where they tease us with the thought it may all be over, and of course they will inevitably beat the odds and live happily ever after. But knowing that is probably going to happen still won't take away from the fact that we'll have our tissues out wiping away the tears at all the important parts - will it? Come on admit it - you still cry watching Beaches... If we didn't go and see the whole movie - we wouldn't have felt that real emotion...
