Article Marketing: Duplicate Content Issues?

Many people worry about article marketing duplicate content. While article marketing is an excellent way to get extra traffic and publicity, it isn’t always perfect. If you submit the same exact article to 100 different article directories, you could run into some problems.

Google detests duplicate content and it’s no secret that the search engine tends to penalize sites that are using too much of the same content. So, what does this mean for article marketing?

Originally, article marketing involved writing up short articles, adding a resource box at the end with the pertinent details and links to your sites. These days, you have to be careful what you use. There are thousands of article directories, all offering the possibility of a backlink. But if you could get in trouble for article marketing, duplicate content just has to go.

Rewrites

The best way to do this is to simply rewrite the articles before resubmitting. This is what many pros do. However, you don’t usually need to rewrite before each submission. Most professional article marketers only rewrite the article for every 5-10 directories that they submit to. This keeps the amount of work to a minimum and having a handful of duplicate articles out there is usually ok.

Limit the directories

Not everyone wants to submit to thousands of article directories. There is software that will do this for you, but it usually isn’t that great. Also, many article directories really aren’t that wonderful, so it’s not surprising that the best article marketers keep their list of directories to submit to, to a minimum. You can have a list of the top 25 or 50 directories and only submit to these. If you do this, you’ll be able to rewrite each article about five times and get maximum exposure. Then all you need to do is wait for the traffic to roll in!

Article marketing is the perfect method of promotion. It is time consuming if you don’t know what you’re doing, though, so it really helps to get the method down. There are plenty of ways to write a little faster, which can really help you in article marketing. Duplicate content is less of an issue if you are doing regular rewrites and keeping the content fresh.

Once you have success with article marketing, duplicate worries or not, you will need to continue churning out articles or hire someone to do this for you. It’s an excellent way to gain free publicity.
