Atlanta’s Scariest Halloween Attractions

Halloween in Atlanta is not just for kids or the faint of heart. Several attractions geared for teenagers and adults will provide terrifying thrills. Here are three of the most popular ones.

Netherworld Haunted House is perhaps the scariest haunted house in Atlanta. Vampires, werewolves, and other ghouls provide a terrifying experience. The combination of amazing special effects and live actors make visitors feel as if they are caught up in a horror movie. It is definitely not for the squeamish. The attraction has two parts. Tickets for the main house, Nightmares, are $22 per person. A second attraction, Raw Meat, is a gruesome trip into the sewers. A combination ticket to both is $28 per person. Netherworld Haunted House is located at 6624 Dawson Boulevard in Norcross. It is easy to find off I-85 North at Exit 99. October hours of operation are Monday-Thursday from 7:30-11pm, Friday, Saturday, and Halloween night from 7pm-midnight, and Sundays from 7-11pm. The attraction will also be open November 4-5 from 7-11pm.

The 13 Stories Haunted House is one of the South’s scariest haunted attractions. Ride the 13 level elevator for the fright of your life. New for 2011 is the Big Top Secret in 3D. The haunted house is open every night in October. Sunday-Thursday hours of operation are dark to 10pm. Friday and Saturday hours are dark to 11pm. It is also open November 4-5. Tickets are $22 per person. 13 Stories Haunted House is located at the Town Center Mall in Kennesaw, Georgia. The mall is easily accessed off I-75 North at Exit 269.

Six Flags Over Georgia presents Fright Fest every October. There is plenty of daytime fun for kids under 13. In Bugs Bunny’s Spooky Town they may enjoy pumpkin painting, listen to Halloween stories, participate in the costume contest, and trick or treat. After dark there are Looney Tunes Halloween cartoons and a Spooktacular Dance Party. The over 13 crowd is in for a night of terrifying thrills. The theme park turns into a scream park of frightful adventures. Fright Fest consists of haunted mazes, scary rides, and spooky shows like Dr. Fright’s Carn-Evil. The Terror Train, Siren Sky Coaster, and Acrophobia Monster Tower will get the adrenalin pumping. Six Flags is open weekends in October as well as Friday, October 21 and 28. Hours are 6-11pm on Fridays, 10am-10pm on Saturdays, and 12-9pm on Sundays. General admission is $54.99, and children less than 48 inches tall are admitted for $39.99. Six Flags is located just west of Atlanta off I-20 in Austell.

These Halloween attractions are not for the timid. Visit one and see if your worst nightmares come to life.
