Atlanta’s Tom Lowe Shooting Grounds

The Tom Lowe Shooting Grounds is a popular venue for trap and skeet shooting. This public facility in the southwest metro area is owned by the Fulton County Parks and Recreation Department. Shooters of all ability levels are welcome to use the facility.

Formerly known as Wolf Creek Gun Club, the Tom Lowe Shooting Grounds was the site of the 1996 Summer Olympic shooting events. Today the facility contains 20 combination trap and skeet fields, nine of them lighted. There is also a 5 stand sporting clays field. Shooters may also want to try maze clay, a combination of 5 stand and sporting clay. Only shotgun shooting is allowed on these ranges. There are no facilities for rifle or pistol shooting. The Tom Lowe Shooting Grounds has a club house and a well stocked pro shop, where shooters may purchase or rent equipment. The Pro shop carries a selection of Beretta shotguns as well as some used guns. Ammunition and shooting accessories are also available for purchase. Beginners can rent everything they will need for a day of trap or skeet shooting. Eye and ear protection are mandatory for all shooters.

The Tom Lowe Shooting Grounds is a great place for beginning shooters to learn. Certified instructors are available to teach proper technique. Children are welcome to take lessons. There is a Sunday league for beginning shooters, and more experienced shooters may enjoy the Tuesday night trap and skeet leagues. Beginner learn to shoot clinics are held on Saturday mornings at 10:30am. The clinic is free for shooters who purchase one round of shooting and one box of shells. Participants should plan to arrive a few minutes early, as the clinics start on time with a safety briefing and are very popular. No reservations are accepted.

Those who need to rent a gun may do so for $9 per day. Renting is also a great opportunity to try out a gun before making a purchase. One round of 25 targets is $6.50. Shotgun shells cost $6.85 for a box of 25. Eyeglass rental is $1, and ear plugs are $.55.

The Tom Lowe Shooting Grounds is located at 3070 Merk Road, off Camp Creek Parkway in southwest Atlanta. The facility is open Monday through Thursday from 1pm-8pm, Saturday from 10am-6pm, and Sunday from 1pm-6pm. It is closed on Fridays. Veteran shooters and first timers are sure to enjoy their experience at the Tom Lowe Shooting Grounds.
