Actors are responsible for weaving the dreams of millions of laymen, so it is absolutely necessary that a committed actor show his/her passion to chase the dream of being an actor. They should be inspired by the biographies and the struggles of all those unlikely men and women who have made reel-life heroes and heroines. Auditions can be a tough call and with the rat race increasing in the glamour world, the first necessity of an aspiring actor must be grit, determination and they must possess a source of unshakeable inspiration.

It is obligatory for all actors to have an impressive resume and possibly even a short bio which will provide the perfect headshot when you shall walk into a studio for an audition. It should be basic in details and clearly state your experience and abilities but do not make it like a press release. You can be creative and innovative in styling the pattern and wording of your resume and make it colourful and eye-catching. For example, if you have been on workshops abroad and picked up extra skills like learning a new language or learned how to scuba dive, then it will be an added advantage when your manager or agent will later try to get you diverse roles to fit into.

The right kind of publicity is important, even in small doses. Hire a professional agent to highlight your acting experience in theatre or ads or else you can even generate publicity by posting your own articles in local newspapers, websites or blogs of theatres or friends. However, be honest in stating the facts even when you are promoting yourself on social networking sites like Facebook. Marketing your talent is very essential to make a mark in the auditions. So here are some tips!

1. Chats, blogs, social network websites. These are very flexible and popular options. You can join like-minded chat groups of actors, from different mediums and get to know the people of the industry better and get some hints about new offers. You can post all your experience on a personal blog or a friend’s blog which will be visited by many and might create just the right kind of name for you. It will also help you showcase and update your work and picture, alongwith the rest of your professional profile. Make sure that you include a contact no. but don’t put your address as it might not be safe. Social networking site like Orkut or Face book and Twitter are fast catching up as addictive mediums of connecting to the world and sharing one’s talents, skills and experiences.
2. Wikipedia and Earthlink are websites that provide lots of free space where you can post your c.v and your pics, giving information about your aspirations to whoever is looking for such skills.
3. Joining online audition training and marketing companies is also a very good option as they provide the right amount of endorsement in the market.
4. You can also create your own website or have it designed by a company offering the services which will provide complete information about you and even hold videos and demo recordings of your ads or plays.

The right marketing, P.R. and talent , along with confidence and patience should soon see you in front of the camera.
