Ayurveda And Spa Tourism In India

Ayurveda is the science of life, the origin of most natural and alternative medicine. The most fascinating aspect of ayurveda is that it uses almost all the methods of healing like lifestyle regimen, yoga, aroma, gems, amulets, herbs, diet, jyotishi (astrology), color and surgery etc.

Ayurveda deals with mental, physical and social well being of an individual making it different from other form of medical therapies. The word ayurveda is derived from Sanskrit and is divided into two words- Ayur which means life and Veda- which means knowledge.

The principle of ayurveda is based on rejuvenation of mind, body and soul. The main treatments followed in ayurveda are: Pizhichil, Sirodhara, Udwarthanam and Tarpanam.

Ayurveda and Spa tourism in India is fast emerging. India today houses some of the award winning spas. Spas use the same old Ayurveda, along with some modern day therapies and techniques and yoga. Today, the popularity of ayurvedic treatment has gained such popularity that tourist from far off come to India just to cure diseases and have a relaxing holiday.

The following are the Ayurveda and Spa destinations in India.

Goa:
Located far away from the hustle bustle of the cities in tranquil locales within nature’s bounty, the spas in Goa are sure shot stress busters. Coupled with all modern amenities of a luxury hotel, these spas are spread in acres of lush green lawns and an unfettered sea view.
Some of these spas include: Taamra Spa in Taj Exotica, Jiva Spa in Taj Aguada, Ayurdharma at the Radisson and the Goa Marriott Spa.

Kerala:
In India, Kerala is the only place where ayurveda is practiced in the same previous way as it was done in the past. The ayurvedic doctors in Kerala are fairly aware of Sanskrit language which enables them to understand the ancient system of treatment in a much better way than others (since ayurvedic books were written in Sanskrit).
Places in Kerala where ayurveda centers are located are:
Trivandrum, Kottayam, Kollam, Alappuzha, Munnar, Kumarakom, Kovalam and Kappad.

Uttaranchal:
Uttaranchal is one of the first choice of tourist coming to India for ayurveda, yoga and meditation. Rishikesh is also known as the “Yoga capital of the world”. An annual yoga week is also held in Rishikesh during the month of February. For ayurveda treatments, Haridwar is a preferred destination.
