Is your baby the cutest thing that was ever born? Does everyone tell you how gorgeous he is? Then maybe he could earn his own college fund by starting in baby modeling.
Your baby can start baby modeling at any age, even as young as a couple of weeks old. There are countless openings for cute babies but there is also lots of competition.
To start with, you need to check out all the reputable baby modeling agencies to find the right one to represent your baby. Find out how long they have been operating and see if you can find some of the children they have supplied. When you have decided on a few agencies in your area, contact them to ask what their requirements are. Some agencies have a recruiting timetable and only accept applications at certain times of the year. However, most agencies accept applications for babies under 6 months old all year round.
You will probably be asked to send a couple of photographs. Good quality snapshots are usually sufficient; send one full length shot and one head and shoulders. Write your child’s details on the back of each photo; include name, date of birth, location, height, size and a contact number. This makes it easy for the agency to contact you should they want to invite you for further discussions.
At this early stage, your child will not need a professional portfolio as they are constantly changing as they grow. So it is not necessary to spend any money until your child is accepted by an agency, when the agency will advise you of their requirements.
When looking into the possibility of baby modeling, never answer any of the advertisements in the paper. If you reply to these adverts you will probably find that they have organized a ‘casting’ in a local hotel. You turn up only to find that they are actually trying to sell you a professional portfolio costing hundreds, sometime thousands of dollars. Do not be tempted by the great sales patter, you will be wasting your money. Reputable model agencies do not have to get their clients by sending people out to scout for them. Clients approach them direct.
Another important consideration before you and you child venture into the world of baby modeling is, are you prepared for the upheaval in your family life? You could be called at 2pm and asked to attend a shoot 100 miles away at 9am the next day. You should also be aware that, whilst you may get three jobs in one week, you may not be called on for several weeks or even months, at a time.
