Baby Photography - Say Cheese Little One

Have you become creative with your digital camera overnight and are you enjoying the results of your ingenious parental instincts? If your answer is yes then let me congratulate you first and then explain that it is the love for your new born baby and a desire to capture every little sweet expression on its tiny face.

Baby photography is most enjoyed by parents, whether they themselves take to the activity or take help of a professional photographer. A few days old baby is the easiest task to click for a photographer. The baby just sleeps and remains in one position with little movement of hands and legs giving the photographer ample freedom without much effort. Baby cuddled in the arms of parents makes for a true family portrait. As the baby grows and enters its first month, baby photography becomes as challenging as wild life photography due to the fidgety nature associated with babies. The ignorance of the baby towards the pointing lens becomes bliss for the photographer. The innocence and clarity of the baby’s face can be aptly arrested in a close-up by the photographer. As the baby begins to sit or crawl, the photographer’s real test of patience begins. The baby not only wishes to explore its environment, thus being constantly on move, but its expressions too change like a flickering candle. It seems to be a competition between the photographer’s reflexes and the baby’s ever-changing expressions. A good number of clicks need to be made fast so as to select the most valuable ones later. The photographer needs to be playful and ready-to-mingle with the baby so as to make the best of each opportunity given by the baby to shoot it.

The photographer can get best help from parents in point and shoot spree of the baby. A little tickle from parents can make that amazing face smile. Making of faces behind the photographer can make the baby’s eyes twinkle and the lips widen. Lying down on the floor or sitting down with the baby in its room can be rewarding for the photographer. Props such as chair and table, toys, food and car chair can be used to bring the desired effect in baby photography. Natural surrounding works wonders for taking photos of a playing baby in natural light. Even when at home, baby photography gives best results in uncluttered room with plenty of natural light and soft colored background. There should be least distraction in terms of noise, television, music or people for the baby to respond naturally and the photographer to work effectively. When the baby’s stomach is full and it is relaxed then is the right time for the photographer to enter. It is up to the photographer to avail each and every opportunity granted to him by the baby for the photo shoot.

A photographer can be appointed for special occasions, but you as a parent can make most of the precious time at hand being close to the baby for most of the time. Your baby’s first yawn, smile, tears, crawl, steps are all unique, so nothing can stop you from becoming an expert at baby photography. All you need is some knowledge of perspective, innovative ideas and the logic of light required for photography (not flash light). So stick to your digital camera as photographs of babies are not only a tour down the memory lane, but also a precious gift for posterity.
