Athletes, would-be athletes and average citizens looking to increase their health and well-being through exercise all face the same monster called back pain at one time or another. It's funny that non-athletes sometimes believe that because athletes are exercising all the time, they are exempt from back pain. This couldn't be farther from reality, as they are as prone to getting back pain as anybody else. So, what can you do to alleviate back discomfort in order for you to be able to start playing sports again? In this article we will go over three simple ways to accomplish this over time. First we have to answer that essential question about why people suffer from back pain. Well, there are several reasons behind it. It could be improper body weight, or they could be playing sports incorrectly. There might also be a lot of extra pressure overall that causes the pain. With athletes like weight lifters, runners and cyclists, they are more prone to getting back pain than competitors. Smart athletes, however, never make the mistake of going to ordinary physiotherapists or chiropractors in order to cure a back pain. If you do, you are simply wasting your time and money, and you won't get your pain cured. Here's why. Many doctors will only give you painkillers, and they simply don't work for back pain. Some of the traditional treatments will not focus instead on the root cause of the pain; however, the treatment will only try and address the symptoms of a more serious cause like a herniated disk. But don't be too discouraged. If you do have a backache, and you want to play sports again, there is still a great deal of hope. If you ascertain that your problem is not a herniated disk or something extremely serious, there are steps you can take. Here are three things you can do right off so that you can get up and get going again. 1. You will want to identify where the pain is coming from in order to take steps to alleviate it. In other words, you must first get to the root of the problem. Many doctors don't do this, and as a result, their patients jump from one treatment plan to another. Once you identify the cause of back pain, it will be relatively straight-forward to cure it. 2. Exercise on a regular basis as continuing to exercise is really the only answer to your problem. Yoga has been very beneficial in cutting down on most spinal pain, so you'll want to do something where you're doing stretching. Aerobic exercises can also help, and remember to avoid painkillers at all costs. Pain killers are addictive and mask your problem and progress. Even if they're successful in giving you some relief, you are actually creating a bigger problem for yourself in the end. 3. Once your back pain is lessened or eliminated, you will want to change some your habits. For instance, you should never stand or sit in an improper position for a long period of time. Also, you should not sleep on an unsupported mattress, and avoid resting your back on a pillow while watching television. If you follow these easy directions, it will go a long way towards helping to eliminate your aching back.
