Bahrain Protests Turn Deadly As Military Fires On Disarmed Crowds

Demonstrations comparable to the recent occurrences in Egypt have been spreading, however protests in Bahrain have turned lethal. Bahrain security forces have shown no compunction about shooting at unarmed crowds of people of demonstrators. Protesters calling for democratic reform are turning the Middle East upside down, as several nations are seeing widespread demonstrations against authoritarian rule comparable to recent events in Egypt. Security forces in Bahrain and in Libya have met demonstrations by unarmed civilians with lethal force.
Demands of reform from protestors in Bahrain
The Middle East is beginning to become increasingly volatile, as demonstrators in numerous nations have begun demanding democratic reforms. The Telegraph reports that there have been protests for days in Manama starting on February 14. This was just days after Egyptian president Mubarak resigned from his position. Security in Bahraini started to deal with demonstrators harshly though. This causes open fire to occur sometimes. Demonstrations on Friday, Feb. 18, were met with tear gas and firing of live rounds, which has led to at least 2 deaths after demonstrators had been fired upon the previous day, which resulted in five fatalities. Peaceful protests have been taking place by Bahraini protesters that do not hurt anybody or carry weapons.
Choice of democracy and civil liberties wished for by Bahrainis
Bahrain protesters want civil rights for Shi'ites. This would be for all who live in the Middle East. Shi'ites isn't equally addressed with Sunnis, the NY Times reports. This is since the royal family of Bahrain and King Hamad bin-Isa al-Khalifa is Sunni. They think the country should change also to a democracy. Protesters no longer want a constitutional monarchy. After funerals of those killed by police during protests Thurs, several Bahrainis went to the heart of Manama in Pearl Square calling it a "Day of Rage." This was despite the warnings given to protesters to stay out.
More demonstrations than in just Tunisia and Egypt
After long entrenched rulers left office in Tunisia and Egypt following uprisings demanding they leave, demonstrations started in Yemen, Libya and Bahrain. Ruler of Libya, Muammar al-Gaddafi is being told to leave by Libyans protesting. USA Today reports that there have been 24 protesters in many cities in Libya that have died. This is how harsh Libyan forces have responded to the protests.
