How does the banner exchange work? Firstly you will need to sign up and join a network. You can search on the internet for many groups. Each banner impression is noted on your account. Banner exchanges are free because they do not just offer a 1:1 ratio of serving banner. Instead, they will show your banner for a certain number of impressions that you performed for them. For example, in a ratio of 10:6, your banner will be shown 6 times for every 10 impressions of others. (Incidentally, the remaining 4 impressions are used to promote the network!

Don’t just use one banner exchange group! Try different ones as you would try any different advertising media. You could find different results with different audiences! Some exchange groups are specific topic oriented. This should make advertising more effective because it is more likely the group is interested.

Be careful and read through the terms and conditions of each group. Some groups have conditions such as where a banner can be placed and uniqueness of a banner. Others often adult-entertainment banners (which may or may not be applicable to your site)
