Barcelona To Face Bilbao In Copa Del Rey Final
In the quarterfinal they eliminated Real Madrid in a hard fought battle that saw tempers flare on and off the pitch and accessions of unfairness. However, the Valencia matches were very much focused on what happened on the pitch and all the better for it. After a 1-1 draw in Valencia last week both teams had something to play for and Valencia came on looking like they meant business, with a couple of good attempts on the Barcelona goal early on. With that out the way the Catalans got into the game, and began their own attack; and in the 15th minute Messi kicked a 40 yard pass to Cesc, who flicked the ball over the Valencia keeper and into their net. The match continued to entertain, with Messi coming close to a goal of his own, and a shot off the rebound from Cuenca going wide. After the break Valencia came on looking fires up again and dangerous. Beating Puyol, Jordi Alba collected the ball from Jonas, but keeper Pinto kept his head and made a good save. Once Barcelona settled down again into the game new boy Cuenca showed what he is made of. He made a reverse pass to Messi, but his shot was pushed over the bar. Messi also showed what he is made of when he beat three Valencia players to shoot at the goal; again it was saved. Valencia came close to scoring towards the end when Pinto misread the situation and was out of place. Aduriz was on target, but luckily for Barcelona Mascherano was there to deflect the ball with his head. Although in the lead, the match was not yet won. 10 minutes from full time though and Xavi blasted the ball into the top corner of the Valencia net after Cesc passed the ball. The match was over for Valencia and Barcelona's place in the final confirmed. It is not currently known when the Copa del Rey final will take place. Often it takes place at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, but that is not the case every year. This year with the hostility between Real Madrid and Barcelona at a high, perhaps it would be preferable to host the final elsewhere.
