Basic Self-hypnosis Information

Self improvement may seem like a daunting if not almost impossible task. A very powerful and effective tool that can be used to help transform the way our mind thinks is through self-hypnosis. Our mind is divided up into four different brain activity levels. When we are awake and completely conscious this is the top-level which is called Beta. At the other end of the spectrum, when we are asleep or unconscious our brain is in the Delta level. The two levels that come in between Beta and Delta are called Alpha and Theta. These levels are reached when we are in a relaxed state of mind. The optimal level that we want our brain to be at for self-hypnosis is the Alpha level. This is when we are completely relaxed, in deep thought, meditation or when our mind drifts off into daydreaming or fantasizing.

When our brain waves are at the Alpha level our mind is relaxed which opens up our subconscious to suggestion. Using suggestion with self-hypnosis is how we begin to alter our habits or behaviors. The affirmations that we tell ourselves need to be positive in order to improve our lives. Such suggestions as “I am good looking...” or “I am strong and confident...” are excellent phrases to tell ourselves.

Positive visualization can help to transform our thoughts into action. By using descriptive action words in our suggestions it will make it easier for us to actually imagine ourselves doing the task. When we are able to first imagine ourselves doing something and completing that task, when it comes to actually doing it in real life it makes the task much easier because we have already accomplished it, if only in our mind. The reason this is so effective is because our subconscious mind is not able to tell the difference between what is real and what is imagined,

It is not required to have a hypnotherapist conduct our hypnosis session. We are able to guide ourselves to a relaxed state and then perform visualization techniques on our own. It is best to practice on a daily basis. A typical session can last anywhere from twenty minutes all the way up to two hours. We are still in control of our mind so at anytime we can take ourselves out of the hypnotic state.

By applying self-hypnosis to our daily lives we can begin to improve just about any facite of our life. From low self-esteem issues to smoking habits and even weight loss. Although it is not an overnight cure for all our problems it is a great place to start.
