When the heart contracts and heart pumps out blood, the pressure remains highest and it is called systolic pressure. Between two heart beats, when heart is at rest, pressure is lowest and then diastolic pressure is measured. Actually the term, Blood pressure refers to arterial pressure, i.e the pressure of blood in large arteries and it’s value is recorded in millimetres of mercury (mmHg). Sphygmomanometer is the device used to measure blood pressure. The normal blood pressure of a full grown man is 120/80 mmHg.
