Basis Of Good Skin Care 101 - Facial Skin Care Products

Do you have your own skin care routine? If no, getting into a good regime that is suitable for your skin type can be a very daunting task indeed. First of all, you need to determine what skin type you have. Then you have to choose the suitable products. There are hundreds and thousands of facial care products in the market today, including moisturizers, toners, cleansers, exfoliates, clarifying lotions, and everything else. However, here's the good news: it does not take too much effort to get your skin back into shape. Below is a quick guide and introduction to the main facial care products and their uses.

Cleansers

One of the facial skin care products is cleansers. Cleansers are used to remove dead skin, make-up, and other face impurities. They are better than using bar soap for cleansing the face, as bar soap removes oil that is essential from the skin and clogs pores. Some cleansers contain fragrances and essential oils, though these are not suitable for sensitive types. It is vital to choose cleansers that match your type. It is advisable to cleanse your face two times a day, or once at night if your skin drys out quickly.

Toners

A toner is a liquid lotion that makes the pores on your face appear smaller. It is usually applied by spraying on the face or using a cotton wool. There are three main types of toner, namely fresheners, astringents and skin tonics. Fresheners are the mildest type of all the toners and are best suited for sensitive skin type. Astringents are best suited for very oily skin types or skins that are prone to breakouts. Skin tonics are suitable for normal or combination skin types.

Moisturizers

Apply moisturizer after toner is applied. Moisturizers re-hydrate the skin making it smoother and softer. It is particularly good if you have dry skin. It improves the overall look of your complexion, and protects sensitive skin. Moisturizers can be purchased at health care stores, although some people swear by home-made recipes made from avocado and yogurt. Apply moisturizer twice a day in the morning and at night.

Exfoliates

Exfoliate is a facial skin care product that removes dead skin cells from the outer layer of the skin. Exfoliates can be bought over the counter or home-made. Facial scrubs bought over the counter may contain micro-beads, pumice or almond-shells. Homemade exfoliates are made from sugar, lemon juice, salt, grapefruit or lavender. It is advisable to exfoliate as recommended: once a week if you have dry skin types, twice weekly for combination skin types and every other day for oily skin.

Cleansing, toning, moisturizing and exfoliating contribute to a good skin care regime. Finding the right facial skin care products for your skin type takes time and trial and error. Who does not want to look good and beautiful? If a proper skin care regime is followed, it will all be well worth in the end.
