Bathroom Accessories Are Now Fabulous

Those about to renovate their bathrooms are likely to find that the trend for such domestic spaces has moved in line with the general spa experience over the last few years.

This is according to interior design writer Debbie Travis of YourHome, with the Star newspaper, who noted that there are "fabulous styles" of tapes, faucets and showerheads available now and will be moving into 2011, with "tall, sweeping lines" transforming bathroom accessories into mini waterfalls, while outsize showerheads "create a general rain experience, both a vision of calm, pure freedom".

However, Ms Travis did advise homeowners to avoid making purchases because it seems fashionable – if the product is out there and it's perfect, "take the leap", she suggested, adding that simple buys such as these can make a big impact on personal environments.

Bathroom accessories aside, now could well be the perfect time to install a new bath or two, with Beatrice Kemp of the San Diego Uptown News affirming that a new year is ideal for a bit of renovation.

Not every bathroom suite can be huge and sometimes the perfect house dictates a level of creativity, as one homeowner found when she discovered her new condominium – which boasted beautiful moldings and details – only had one powder room.

Speaking to the Boston Globe, Alexis Smith explained that she decided to transform a closet in the main bedroom into a bathroom suite and realised there are several ways to make small rooms feel more spacious, one of which is to keep colours neutral.

To this end, Ms Smith ensured that the walls were covered in glossy white subway tile, while the floor was laid with white square marble. For a splash of interest, she incorporated pale green marble pencil molding halfway up the shower walls.

For those more interested in keeping up with fashion where their bathroom furniture is concerned, it might be wise to heed the words of Jeanne Milne, owner of The Art of Hardware, who told the Calgary Herald that the current trend is for classic, simple and clean fixtures.
