Bathroom Redesign Tips For 2011

When renovating a bathroom, it is important to remember to include some finishing touches as, according to one interior designer, such decisions can help homeowners feel pampered.

Speaking to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Jill Abelman – owner of Inside Style – explained that bringing in bathroom accessories such as big fragrant bars of soap and some new towels can work wonders, although there are other steps that can be taken to create a charming space.

She recommended using wallpaper in bathrooms as this is an effective way to add a bit of punch to a washroom, as well as opting for something that demands attention, such as a chandelier hanging over the bath.

"If you tackle one room at a time, one area at a time, you can have what looks like a new home in a few months," the news source went on to observe.

Those who want their bathroom suites to be on trend may wish to make note of one department store co-owner's interior design predictions for 2011.

Speaking to Journal Live, Jane Rutherford of Rutherfords said her colours for the next 12 months will be smudgy greys, browns, lavenders and cobalt blues, the latter of which is one of her favourites, although she did say she finds it doesn't work in large doses.

"I would introduce this colour to my brown and grey home in subtle tones or perhaps through accessories," she remarked, which suggests that bathroom furniture in the shade could complement a room well.

Ms Rutherford also provided some advice to anyone about to embark on a renovation project, recommending them not to follow fashion and trends "too slavishly".

However, the Arizona Daily Star recently stated that square and rectangular sinks are the "shapes du jour" and offer a modern look while helping to maximise space, which could be of interest to some.

Also for an instant update to a Bathroom, consider changing water fixtures such as taps and shower heads, as recommended by the Mississauga News.
