Batman: Arkham Asylum is an action-adventure stealth video game which will be release in August 2009. The game has been developed by Rocksteady Studios and is being published by Edios Interactive in conjunction with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
The game, Batman: Arkham Asylum, is based on the DC Comic's character Batman and takes its story from the long-running comic book mythos. The game begins with Batman escorting the Joker and a large number of sane convicts to the Arkham Asylum after apprehending him after his latest plot. However, shortly after arriving at the Asylum, the Joker, with the help of Harley Quinn, frees all of the inmates and locks down the Asylum with Batman, Commissioner Gordon and most of the Asylums staff still inside. Batman is then given the task to uncover the full extent of the Jokers plans along with contending with the inmates of the Asylum.
The Gameplay places just as much focus on Batman's role as a detective throughout the game as on his combat prowess. Most of the game is played from Batman's perspective through an over-the-shoulder, third person perspective. The player is able to roam freely throughout Arkham, including an area that serves as Batman's secret on-site Batcave. As expected, many of Batman's gadgets are included in the game, especially the famous grapple gun to help give a better perspective of a particular area.
The Arkham Asylum will feature Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman, Mark Hamill as 'the Joker' and Arleen Sorkin as 'Harley Quinn', who are all reprising their voice roles from the long-running DC Animated Universe. The game will be based on the 70-year Batman franchise as a whole rather than being tied to any particular adaptation.
