Those who have never been to Italy have seen images portrayed on television and in film over many years.

Schools have taught us Roman history, writers have produced films, plays and opera using Italy as the backdrop, everyone has a view about Italy. Our images are of the Roman Emperor in toga and sandals, the gladiator with sword and shield, the chariot races, the Games and the Coliseum.
