Becoming A Master Electrician
Presently, there is an increase in work for the master electrician in the area of installing or operating audio, data processing systems and computer based video. The path that the master electrician takes to become a professional in this field includes taking related courses in High School, getting a two-year associate degree, completing an apprenticeship, taking qualifying exams, and continuing education courses and training. In high school, the student should take classes in physics and math. Classes in blue printing reading and shop can be used as foundational courses and prerequisites toward classes that will be required in college. Computer science classes that are offered in high school should also be taken. These types of classes are also preparation courses toward this area of expertise. Attending a technical school is also in the path of becoming a master electrician. With a concentration in electronics, the student can successfully complete and obtain a two-year associate’s degree. In previous years, certain classes were incorporated as part a part of apprenticeships programs. However, the student who wants to pursue a career, as an electrician will now began their studies by taking classes in physics (as it relates to electricity theory), electronics, math, safety, and building codes. To move into an apprenticeship program the individual can take advantage of placement programs and internships. Licensed electricians are required to complete two year apprenticeship program. These programs are usually sponsored by organizations such as Electricians and the National Association of Contractors or the International Brotherhood of Electricians. To obtain the electricians license for a specific state, the student is required to successfully pass a written test. Presently, there are not standardized test available or required. The apprenticeship supervisor, however, will be responsible for setting up and arranging the exam. After the electrician completes their Associate Degree and the written exam, they can continue their education by securing a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering.
