Before Going To Your Condo - Don't Forget These!
- Arrange for pet care: Who is going to take care of Fluffy and Fido while you're gone? Oh, you forgot about that? How could you? Time to get on it and call your friends, neighbors and the local pet hotel boarding facility. - Stop your mail: You don't want your mail to be bulging out of your mailbox while you're gone, do you? Seeing an overflowing mailbox is a tipoff to burglars who might break in while you're away. - Pay your bills: Do you have bills that are due while you're away? You don't want to risk late fees or incurring higher interest rates due to a credit score gone bad while you were vacationing. - Ask for time off from work: Did you formally request time off from your job or did you just casually mention it to your supervisor? You better follow company protocol or you might find yourself in trouble with your boss's boss when you return. - Tell your neighbors to watch out for your house: It's always wise to let a trusted neighbor know that you'll be gone for a while just in case something goes wrong. "What could possibly go wrong?" you wonder. Plenty, for example, your pipes could freeze and burst, your roof could collapse or flyers and phone books could be dropped off on your front porch, alerting the robbers that the place is vacant. Your pets could also reenact the scene from the movie "Homeward Bound" where they travel back home while their family was still away. - Cancel your hair appointment: Did you remember that your monthly hair appointment was the week you'll be away? Well, your stylist will when she's standing around waiting for you to show up. Be courteous and cancel the appointment. - Tell your kids' tutors, piano teachers and soccer coaches that you'll be away: Your kids have a social life, too. So that their tutors, teachers and coaches don't worry about them, let them know that the family will be missing a few lessons and events. If you want to have a relaxing vacation after checking into your condo at the beach, be sure to take care of everything back home before you head out. Remember to arrange for pet care, stop the mail, pay your bills, ask for time off from work, tell your neighbors to monitor your house, cancel your hair appointment and let your kids' tutors, piano teachers and coaches know you'll be gone.
