Before You Start Building Your First Bunk Bed

Bunk beds are one of the most children friendly types of furniture, plus they can save you a ton of space. However, what you might not have heard of is that over 36,000 people go to the emergency room every year because of bunk bed related injuries. Here's what you need to know before you begin building…

First of all, building a lofted bed is a worthy goal, mostly because it will save you a ton of money. Plus, from my own experience, if you use the right instructions, the amount of time it takes to install a homemade bunk is not much longer than the store bought option.

Building your own requires just a little bit more time and energy, however, you will save hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Plus, when you use proper building techniques (found in premium instructions), your bunk will almost always be more safe than a mass produced piece of furniture.

If you build your own you can easily double or triple the product quality (durability, strength, etc.) for half the cost of buying a pre-made bed. If you do want to save money and build a stylish new bed here's some things that you must do.

First, you should always use proper guides and instructions. At the end of this article I will give you a link to a review I did about my favorite product out there (and I've tried almost all of them).

Next, you should do proper planning and allocated an afternoon to your project. While this will go relatively fast, it's better not to rush through the process. On average you'll need to set aside a few hours of your time, nothing more.

Last, follow the directions in your instructions/plans. I know this sounds simple, but I almost always have the tendency to "do it my way." When I do succumb to this urge I've found that my end product is almost always inferior to simply following the pre-determined directions.

If you can follow these three simple steps, your experience with building a bunk bed will be astronomically more productive and fun. Plus, you'll reduce the risk of serious injury or even death. And, last but not least, you'll save hundreds and hundreds of dollars.
