Best Places In The Uk For A Short Break? Try Suffolk!

As a county, Suffolk is an extremely popular destination for those looking for a holiday or a weekend/midweek break. It’s easy transport links from London and Cambridge makes this area a popular place to visit throughout the year.

With its ancient landscapes, seaside heritage, historic places to visit and many hidden gems, Suffolk has so much to offer the visitor. There are some fantastic areas to be explored by foot or bicycle and Suffolk boasts two areas of outstanding natural beauty. The characteristic lowland English landscape made famous worldwide by artists such as Constable and Gainsborough is still recognisable today. The charm of the villages, fascinating local attractions and beauty of the surrounding countryside mean there’s no shortage of places to go and things to see.

The Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is one of Britain’s finest landscapes. Located on the coast of East Anglia, it covers 150 square miles and includes wildlife-rich wetlands, ancient heaths, windswept shingle beaches and historic towns and villages.

For those are looking to visit the area, there a number of accommodation options available to you. A wide variety of hotels in Suffolk await the visitor and for those preferring a coastal destination it would be difficult to beat the traditional fishing town of Aldeburgh.

Aldeburgh has changed little over the years and even today fishermen can be seen hauling ashore their daily catch. The pebbled beach in Aldeburgh is a big favourite too with couples and families alike and the wide open beaches provide enough space for everyone, even during the busy summer season.

Sitting at the southern end of the seafront, near to the yacht club is The Brudenell Hotel, one of the most iconic hotels in Suffolk. Currently undergoing extensive renovations, the hotel will open its new doors to the public on April 2nd 2010. All of the bedrooms, the lounges and the restaurants will be sporting a new look with it’s aim of achieving AA four star rating which will make it one of only two to achieve this award on the East Anglian coast.
