Beware Property Spruikers

It's a sad fact of life that there are plenty of rip-off merchants out there and none so active as those in the real estate investing scene. If you hear anyone offering you a once in a lifetime chance to make money, be sure to ignore them. Or if they offer you an investment chance that is 'too good to be true', believe them: it is too good to be true. Other phrases to be wary of are 'no money down' and 'risk free'.

Many property spruikers offer the man in the street the chance to attend a free educational seminar to hear about this marvellous chance of investment. Should you go, you'll find that you really need to go to another 'main' seminar to hear the key secrets - and this one will cost you a bomb, because that is where the spruikers make their money.

Spruikers will often bring in a fear factor to encourage people into these so-called wonderful investments. Their favourite prod is to create doubt about the dependability of the government pensions such as the old age pension. Once you hear that, it's time to remember that sage advice from your grandfather; "there is no such thing as a free lunch".
