Big L Mixtapes-the Early Years

The early 1990’s were a very important time in the world of hip hop music because so many new artists were creating new mixtapes and changing the face of the genre. Big L mixtapes have been hailed as some of the best that the period had to offer. However, fame did not come overnight for Big L and he had to go down a long road to eventually find success.

Big L grew up in the neighborhood of Harlem in New York City with his fellow future rap star, Cam’ron. He took an interest in rap from a young age and began creating Big L Mixtapes. His experiences growing up in Harlem influenced the rest of his career, and he often made references to the corner of Lenox Avenue and 139th Street in his lyrics.

He had the opportunity to start working on hip hop songs with Lord Finesse and even appeared on his 1992 B-Side of the song “Party Over Here.” As he began to make more of a name for himself, he was invited to join Lord Finesse’s hip hop group, Diggin’ In The Crates. He then started a group of his own with rappers from Harlem called Children Of The Corn.

In 1993, Big L was finally offered a record deal of his own by Columbia Records and set to work on his very first single. The song was called “Devil’s Son” and it was very popular among people who buy mixtapes. However, fans would have to get by for nearly two years with just Big L mixtapes while they waited for the rapper to release his first full length album with Columbia Records.

Big L mixtapes helped fans to stay interested while he worked on his long awaited debut. The effort would prove to be well worth it when Big L became one of the biggest names of the industry. However, it would not be easy and he would still have to work to prove himself to the rap community.
