Binge Eaters What Do They Miss Out On
In binge eating, the eating activity is an act of agitation, where the rapid intake of food provides some hypnotic, undeniable pleasure. Eating stops only when the person feels too full to carry on. Binge eaters miss out on a lot. First, they develop a warped relationship with food. To them, food is not a source of nutrition or pleasure. Instead, it is used to satiate some unknown, inner yearning. The act of eating acts as an emotional outlet. But, the relief they find is short lived. Binge eating is almost always followed by intense guilt, remorse and self-loathing. So, binge eaters can never really enjoy the food on their plate. Binge eaters lose out on relationships too. They understand that they are controlled by their eating habits, but they cannot help themselves. They resort to sly behavior and stealthy ways because they are embarrassed by their weakness. Binge eaters go to extreme lengths to keep their habit a secret. They may shop for food from various outlets, order over the phone and hide food at home, so they can indulge without anybody knowing. They may even steer away from close relationships. Binge eaters thus miss out on self-respect and self-esteem. Often, the serious weight gain that follows binge eating makes them a recluse, robbing them of the joy of living life in a normal way. Physically, binge eating has a number of ill effects. Victims are bound to put on weight. Obesity and lack of movement are sure to follow. Most binge eaters experience high levels of blood sugar and cholesterol. This ultimately leads to heart problems and diseases. As you can see, binge eating affects the physique and the psyche in equal parts. It takes a long time for victims to realize that eating until you can fill a gaping hole in your heart is somewhat like digging a hole in the ground so you can reach the center of the earth!
