Clogged Up drainage insights for the unlucky

At the end of a hard day's work, you get into the shower and enjoy the buzz of hot water on your face and then, suddenly your feet seem to go under water too - Oh no, the drain is choked once again!. Is there anything as inconvenient and messy as a plugged drain!. What about that wet sinking feeling when you are brushing your teeth at the washbasin on a lousy Monday morning and the filled sink just refuses to drainpipe!. Nobody likes to deal with blocked drains because they are a real hassle and they give an impression of being unsanitary (because they are). However it is something that every household has to deal with, sooner or later. The best way to manage stopped bathroom drainage is to learn how to unblock them.

Why Do They Happen?.

Hair, dust and other particles getting stuck in the space between the drain pipe and the pipes are the main cause. Everyday products like soaps, shampoos, detergents and so on add to the problem by building up around the solid material. Eventually this will become more and more dense and this is what prevents your water flowing uninhibited through your drain. If you notice water getting accumulated in your tub or sink, you definitely have clogged drains.

Clear Up Your drains fast.

If you happen to have a blocked sink or bath, there are some steps you can take to clear up the passage ways and create a normal flow once again. Whether you are working with a sink or a bathtub drain pipe, the first step to take is to remove the plug. With a bathroom sink this can be as easy as pulling it right out or as complicated a problem as looking under the sink and removing the nut that holds it in place. With respect to the bathtub, the screws have to be loosened to remove the stopper or the overflow plate has to be dismantled.

The removal of the plug may allow you to spot the cause for the blockage. You are most likely to see bunch of hair and other debris entangled in a blockage. Reach down into the pipe and pull out as much as possible. Use a wire from a clothes hangar or some other apparatus if you have difficulties reaching the blockage or grabbing the build up so that you can pull it out. Clearing out the hair, soap scum and particles could very well take care of the problem for you.

However, there is a chance that you will not be able to reach the blockage with the wire so you will have to try something else. The most practical way to clean such deep-seated clogs is a drain plunger. To begin with, you should plug the overspill drain pipe to make sure that the plunger has optimum suction. Now put the plunger over the drain pipe and move it up and down continuously at an even pace. Hopefully, after doing this and once the plunger is taken away, any water should flow freely down the drainpipe as the vacuum created dislodged the obstruction.

If the plunger also fails to clean your bathroom drainpipe, then you should take the help of chemical drain cleaner. The chemicals have the potential to harm your bathroom fixtures, and they are dangerous too; for this reason, they should be used only when all the above methods fail to unblock your drainpipe.

Call a professional plumber if all else fails.

If you are unable to unclog the drains even after trying all the methods, it is only advisable to call a professional plumber who has experience of drainage work. Professional plumbers will have specialist equipment and know-how to unblock your drain pipe in next to no time. It might cost you some money, but a plumber's expertise can give quite a relief with this type of messy household problem.
