Blog writing tips are also known as article writing tips or copywriting tips. Blog writing tips can be found all over the internet. Professional and niche writers alike, have their own view on how an article should appear to its reader. However, what we need as writers are effective and proven ways to keep the content of our blogs attractive to readers while continuing to gain more readers.
Most of the tips that I will give might have already been told over and over again. It’s not surprising to be familiar with these tips since most of these are old rules that have been used for ezines, newsletters and other forms of online article writing. They have been applied too in other writing endeavors. However, you might also find major differences. These tips may also aim to attract clients and prospects to your blog if you are writing for a niche market.
WIIFM
WIIFM stands for What’s In It For Me? Always write and envision the reader in your mind. Keep this in mind and remember that readers would read your blog if they find something that’s in it for them.
Value
Stop wasting people’s time and make your article worthwhile and valuable. If you don’t have anything to say, don’t write anything for yourself. Other people might have something to say so use those sources in making an article.
Proofread
Always proofread you work to find grammatical errors and typos. Never assume a perfect work. Give some respect to your readers by delivering to them a high quality article that is free of errors.
KISS
KISS stands for Keep It Short and Simple. Most people would just scan on articles and find something interesting in it. You may have a lot to say and you may really know many things about a subject matter but people who are reading online might not be interested in reading your novel. Get to your point as quickly as possible and publish more short posts rather than long ones.
5 Ws
Keep your article snappy and lively. Shout if you must and avoid boring use of words. Even if you aren’t a writer, you can certainly write for a blog. Write as if you are talking to someone. Get to the point quickly. Remember the 5 Ws of journalism: who, what, why, when, and where.
Linking
Remember that you are writing in the internet. Always link. Do it as often as you can. This could help build a reputation that you are really an expert in your field. People wouldn’t have time to check what others are up to so bring them to those. Linking would also help you build a strong network of internet associates that would most probably link back to your blogs too.
Keywords
Keywords are very important since it could help you stay on track while making search engines see your blog often. This could help in making you rank higher in search engine results. So use keywords as often as you can.
Clarity
Make sure your readers understand you. Spoon feed them if you must. Do not use jargon that may not be familiar with everyone. Make you sentences short. Use only one idea per sentence. Write clearly.
Talk
Your blog should appear as if it’s talking to the person reading it. Write as if you are talking to someone. You may use expressions that are commonly used in speech like: Gotta go now, Gotcha, or Go figure. You may use slang as often as you want but keep in mind the age group of your readers.
Headlines
Your headline should be clear. Make bold statements and don’t be afraid in doing so. Don’t mislead people. Use keywords as often as you can.
Checklist
After writing a post, don’t click that POST or SAVE button just yet. Use a checklist that involves all the tips mentioned above and check if your article really complies on what the tips require. Ask questions regarding the article and see if they are good enough to pass your standards. Be sure that it is objective and written in a journalistic fashion. Don’t make it too formal. Don’t make it too informal too. Too informal or too formal articles might make the reader not want to read your article in the first place. Imagine the article as a person being true to his self.
