Blogs, Podcats, Wikki - What Does It All Mean?

What does it all mean?

With new technology comes new terms and ways of communicating. This guide will give you a brief overview of some of the latest and greatest.

Blogs
Blog is short for weblog.

A weblog is an online journal that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author or the Web site.

Companies use blogs as a way of handing out information through non-traditional channels.

RSS Feed
RSS is an acronym for Really Simple Syndication and Rich Site Summary.

Just like a newspaper service, people subscribe to a company’s or website’s RSS feed. They use a program to do this which allows them to select how often to check your site. If your site has a new RSS article, their program will automatically download the new article for you to read at your leisure.

Podcast
Podcasting, a portmanteau of Apple's "iPod" and "broadcasting", is a method of publishing files to the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed and receive new files automatically by subscription, usually at no cost. Podcasts are similar in nature to a RSS Feed except instead of downloading written text it involves audio files

Wikki
A website or similar online resource which allows users to add and edit content collectively and are becoming known as the tool of choice for large, multiple-participant projects.

The best thing about wikkis is that you don’t have to be a software programmer to load your content on the site. You can do it in a matter of minutes, in fact, the word “wikki” is Hawaiian for “quick.”

The most famous example of this is Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia.
