Body Acne Cure - The Main Treatment Types

When looking for a body acne cure, the one that works for you is down to trial and error. Everyone is different so you have to test different treatments to see the effects on your own acne.

The body acne cure treatments fall into the following categories.

Exfoliation

Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and thins the surface of the skin. Many products contain microbeads which help exfoliate the skin. Some people dry brush their skin to improve circulation as well as decreasing the build up of dead skin cells. A problem that can occur with this method is exfoliating too harsh which can irritate the skin and actually increase acne flare ups.

Topical Bactericidals

These are products that are applied to the skin to kill bacteria. The main problem with such remedies is that the skin can become dry and irritated which leads the skin to produce more oil to compensate for the dryness. This can then cause further acne.

Topical antibiotics

These are medicated products that are applied to the skin to kill bacteria on the surface.

Oral antibiotics

These are taken to fight acne internally but it has been noted that drug-resistant strains of bacteria can emerge.

Hormonal treatments

Hormonal fluctuations and imbalance can be the main reason for bouts of acne so remedies exist to control hormone levels.

External retinoids

These are products such as Retin-A which act on acne by thinning the skin and reducing the turnover of skin cells.

Laser treatment/Phototherapy

Is used to kill bacteria on the surface of the skin with lasers and lights. This is the most expensive remedy and takes a number of sessions. It's usually used to improve the look of scarring left by previous acne. Some people have great results whilst others don't have a remarkable change.
