Book Printing Made Easier
First of all, you need to ask yourself whether or not you want to do everything yourself. By everything, I mean do you want to lay out your book, design a cover, print the book at home one copy at a time and somehow bind it, in addition to trying to sell the copies that you print? Although laser printers and computers with Internet access make that possible, most people would say no. Instead, most people would opt for something called POD, or Print On Demand. POD allows an author to have almost complete control of the printing process with next to none of the worry. The Basics Of POD: The basics of POD are that Internet companies offer authors the chance to post an ad selling their book. Then, when an order is placed for a copy, the company prints that copy and mails it out on the owner's behalf. The company then takes a share of each sale. That means that authors don't have to pay for bulk printings and then worry about how to sell them. Almost all of the pressure is off. Good And Bad POD Companies: Unfortunately, not all POD companies are legitimate. Some try to con you into thinking they're truly POD when they are really scammers trying to get your money. So, make sure that you use a well-established POD service with good references. A true POD service shouldn't charge you up front or try to cheat you. In fact, it's in the best interest of a good POD service for your book to sell well. After all, they share in the sales profits. So, many excellent POD companies provide services like illustrations, editing and marketing help that you should look into. Design Structure: Regardless of how you choose to handle book printing, remember that layout is key. You won't sell copies of a book that looks unprofessional or is hard to read. So, don't fall into the common trap of trying to save on materials by cramming too many words onto a single page. You're better off opening things up a bit and using a layout that is easy on the eyes. If you're not sure about how to structure your book for publication, don't worry. There are many resources about book printing, especially online. So, whether you go through a POD company or not, you should be able to find everything you need to make your book the best it can be.
